Beeswax
The beeswax is formed by worker bees, which secrete it from wax producing glands to build honeycomb cells. Chemically, beeswax consists mainly of esters of fatty acids and various long-chain alcohols.
Applications
Beeswax is a major bee product and can be used in various ways. Industrially it is used in cosmetics,pharmaceuticals and textiles.Other uses include beekeeping industry, candle making and leather industry.
1. In skin care and cosmetics, beeswax is used in lip balm, lip gloss, hand creams, and moisturizers; in cosmetics such as eye shadow, blush, and eye liner.
Beeswax is an important ingredient in moustache wax and hair pomades, which make hair look sleek and shiny.2. In food preparation, beeswax is used as a coating for food, by sealing out the air, protection is given against spoilage and mold growth. It also can be used as a food additive, in small quantities acting as a glazing agent, which serves to prevent water loss or to provide surface protection for some fruit.3. In candle-making, beeswax is further recommended for the making of candles used in the liturgy of churches、cup and others special candles .
4. In other areas, beeswax is an ingredient in surgical bone wax, which is used during surgery to control bleeding from bone surface; shoe polish and furniture polish can both use beeswax as a component.
